Introduction
This CD-ROM is produced by the European Space Agency (ESA) and contains
land surface temperature demonstration products as estimated from the Advanced Very High Resolution
Radiometer (AVHRR) sensor onboard the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) series of
polar orbiters. The data used are from the full resolution (1 km) composites (decade) dataset processed
in the framework of the "1 km AVHRR Global Land Data Set" collaborative project of the United States
Geological Survey (USGS) EROS Data Centre (EDC), NOAA, NASA, ESA under the guidance of IGBP and CEOS.
This CD-ROM contains excerpts from the full resolution land surface temperature (1 km pixel) dataset over
Europe, as well as so called world monthly "climatic values" (0.5° x 0.5° grid). The full processed
dataset going from July 1992 to June 1993.
Data Access
This dataset is public and can be accessed from the BADC archives Please acknowledge the source of the data in any publication.
Data Availability
This CD-ROM contains general information
documents (Readme, Algorithm
Theoretical Basis Document (ATBD), and Input Output Data Document (IODD)) and data files (Full Resolution
Land Surface Temperature and Climatic Land Surface Temperature).
The data files included in this CD-ROM consist of two types:
- Excerpts at full resolution (1
km) of the Land Surface Temperature fields over Europe covering the following areal extent:
- upper left corner: 72°N, 12°W,
- upper right corner: 72°N, 39°E,
- lower left corner: 34°N, 12°W,
- lower right corner: 34°N, 39°E.
The third decades (10 day composite) of December, March, June and September (4 decades) have been selected
in order to be season representative of the full dataset (36 decades).
The geometry is interrupted Goode Homolosine projection.
The file names are ss_mmffyy_mmllyy_lstd_xxx where lstd stands for the product type (here full resolution
over Europe), ss for the satellite number, mm for the month, yy for the year, ff for the first day of the
decade, ll for the last day of the decade and xxx the data type.
- Climatic Land Surface
Temperatures over a month on a square half degree grid. The area covered is the whole globe:
- upper left corner : 90°N,180°W,
- upper right corner : 90°N, 180°E,
- lower left corner : 90°S,180°W,
- lower right corner : 90°S, 180°E.
The time sampling is one month.
The file names are ss_mm_yy_lstc_xxx where lstc stands for the product type (here climatic products), ss
for the satellite number, mm for the month, yy for the year and xxx the data type.
