The BADC Data Extractor

A web-interface to multiple dataset conversion, subsetting, selection, plotting and animation.

Migration of services

The BADC are presently in the process of closing the Data Extractor service and migrating the services over to the Centre for Environmental Data Archival's Web Processing Service (WPS). This will permit a scalable and more robust service than is possible with the Data Extractor.

It is the intention to retain all the functionality provided by the Data Extractor services and provide additional ones for datasets in due course, including the ability to string processes together.

Presently we have the MIDAS land surface station data extraction migrated successfully.

If you have specific questions regaring this migration please contact the BADC helpdesk

Introduction

We are pleased to announce the launch of the BADC Data Extractor (dx) - a web-interface to large datasets. You can access the Data Extractor if you are registered for any of the following datasets:

The Data Extractor exposes the following functionality to BADC users:

  1. Extraction of NetCDF datasets.
  2. Differencing between datasets.
  3. Browsing and selection of subsets.
  4. Selection in space and time.

The resulting data is then seamlessly available via the GeoSpatial Plotting and Animation Tool (GeoSPlAT) which allows:

  1. User-defined plotting.
  2. User-defined animation.

Please note that the current version (0.1b) is only a beta-release so we invite you to test the service and give us your feedback.

Further documentation about this tool will appear here soon.

The Data Extractor currently builds upon the PCMDI Climate Data Analysis Tools (CDAT) package.

Accessing the Data Extractor

Users with access to the above datasets can access the Data Extractor at: http://cdat.badc.nerc.ac.uk/cgi-bin/dxui.py

User feedback

In order to improve this tool and to expand its functionality we welcome any feedback that you have. Please contact us on BADC@rl.ac.uk with your comments and suggestions.

Further information

Please see the author's web pages for more information about the Data Extractor. More information about the GeoSPlAT package is also available.
