Change password

Password definition

The password must be at least six characters in length.
The password is case sensitive

Web account holders

When you first register your details with the BADC, you are issued with a username and you must decide on a password.

After you have registered you may change your original password to a new one, only known to you, using our web Change password facility.

login.badc.rl.ac.uk account holders

If you have an account on login.badc.rl.ac.uk, then you cannot change your password using the web browser (this may have been set up because the user requested FTP access to data). In order to change your password, please connect to login.badc.rl.ac.uk using SSH, log in and use the yppasswd command (please do not use the password command). After you have changed your password your web password will be automatically updated to the new value within 15 minutes.

Forgot password

If you have forgotton the password for your web account, then please follow the instructions to Request Password Reset.

Once issued a new password, please change your password to a new one, only known to you, using our Change password facility. Note that the web "change password" facility cannot be used if you have forgotten your password!

If you cannot remember the password for your account on login.badc.rl.ac.uk, simply send an email message to BADC Support, clearly stating who you are, where you are working/studying and your BADC account username if known. BADC Support will then reset your password that you may then change for your own using the yppasswd command on login.badc.rl.ac.uk.

Please note that due to Data Protection requirements, we are unable to send account details to another email address than the one you originally registered with (i.e. the email address associated to your BADC account in our records).
