How to acknowledge data/BADC?
The preferred method of acknowledging the BADC is to cite the dataset as if it were any other academic publication.
Examples of a citation are given on each dataset's homepage.
Some individual datasets may require additional acknowledgement.
For example:
- ECMWF Operational and Re-analysis data:
- Section 4 of the ECMWF data agreement electronically signed by the user states:
"Articles, papers, or written scientific works of any form, based
in whole or in part on data supplied by ECMWF, will contain an
acknowledgement concerning the supplied data. The data may be
cited as follows:
'ECMWF 1995. The Description of the ECMWF/WCRP Level III-A Global
Atmospheric Data Archive'.
ECMWF should be provided with one copy of any such written
scientific work."
- Met Office data:
- From the Met Office agreement, "scientific papers must give due
credit to Met Office either through acknowledgement or if the data provided
a significant basis of the work, co-authorship."
Some BADC Services require slightly different acknowledgement.
For example:
- BADC Trajectory Service:
- "I am grateful to the British Atmospheric Data Centre, which is part of the NERC National Centre for Atmpspheric Science (NCAS), for providing access to calculated trajectories using data from the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts."
-
"I wish to thank the British Atmospheric Data Centre, which is part of the NERC NAtional Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS), for the use of its calculated trajectory data. I also thank the European Centre for Medium Range Weather Forecasts who supplied the initial data via the BADC."
-
"Thanks to the British Atmospheric Data Centre, which is part of the NERC National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS), for the calculation of trajectories and access to ECMWF data."
Please contact the BADC Helpdesk if you require advice regarding this.
