QUEST Theme 3 - QUEST Fish (Predicting impacts and consequences of climate change on fisheries) Project

* Introduction

QUEST-FISH will focus on investigating how climate change will affect the potential production for global fisheries resources in the future, compared to past and present scenarios, in the absence of exploitation. It will estimate the added vulnerability of these effects on national and regional economies in fishery-dependent areas and on specific elements of the fishery system at different scales. Future vulnerabilities of national economies (and globally) to determine the consequences of predicted fish and fishmeal production scenarios will also be estimated, including other drivers on fisheries, such as fuel dependency and cost and population growth.

This approach removes uncertainties as to what exploitation regulations will be implemented in coming decades, and focuses on the added impacts that climate change is likely to cause, and on the subsequent additional risks and vulnerabilities to human societies.

* Availability of data and file format

Data are stored in the BADC QUEST Fish project data archive.

The data filenames should follow the BADC File Name convention and the data file format should be NetCDF or NASA-Ames.

* Access to data and information

Please refer to the QUEST Conditions of Access page for details on access restrictions.

* Who to contact

QUEST Fish is led by Dr Manuel Barange (PML) with 18 co-investigators from POL, PML, CEFAS, University of Plymouth, University of Portsmouth, CSIC (Spain), UEA, WorldFish Centre, IPSL, ICES (Denmark), Met Office, IRD (Paris) and University of North Carolina.

Each QUEST project will have a designated "data co-ordinator" to ensure good communication with the QUEST core team/BADC regarding data issues, and to ensure that each project meets its data provision obligations. The data co-ordinator for the QUEST Fish project is to be determined.
