The Ported Unified Model code is no longer available from the BADC. The code can be obtained either via the Met Office directly or
via the NCAS Computational Modelling Services (CMS). Full details about the PUM and how to access it are available at: http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/collaboration/um-collaboration |
IntroductionThe Met Office Unified Model (UM) is a regularly updated piece of software that is used to generate simulations of regional or global weather and/or climate. A number of datasets generated by the UM are held at the BADC. These include the following:
An entirely different product is the Ported UM (PUM - now known as the External release of the UM (ExUM)) which is the actual software code itself. The PUM has a regular release cycle which is given version number such as 4.5, 6.0 or 6.1.
The Unified Model is the name given to the suite of atmospheric numerical modelling software developed and used at the Met Office. The model supports global and regional domains and a wide range of temporal and spatial scales that allow it to be used for numerical weather and climate prediction as well as a wide range of atmospheric research activities. This software allows the Unified Model to be run on a user's own system. More information detail about the Ported Unified Model is available on the Met Office Unified Model web page.
Please note that this is the MODEL SOFTWARE ONLY, not the UM model output, which is located at http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/data/um/
Restricted source code|
Following a discussions with the Met Office in April 2010 it is no longer possible to apply for access to the source code. |
Unified Model source code is available under licence from the Met Office at http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/collaboration/um-collaboration
DocumentationDetailed documentation about the PUM is provided with the source code.
