BADC Trajectories - Plotting Help
For help on an individual item on the form, simply click on the link from
the descriptive text or scroll down this window until you have found the
relevant section.
- Download NetCDF file:
- Use this to download the output file from the integration. The output
file is a netcdf file and has the extension .nc. Provided the browser has
no application type set for .nc files
you will be prompted for a file name for the NetCDF file.
- View NASA Ames file:
- Use this link to view a NASA Ames dump of the trajectory file. To
Download the file use 'Save As' on your browser. The suggested file
name for NASA Ames trajectory files is ttyymmdd.hha. Where 'tt' is
the text string 'tt', 'yy' is the year, 'mm' the month, 'dd' the day
of the month, 'hh' the hour (all of the start time for the trajectory
integration), and 'a' a letter used to designate different files
produced for the same initial time.
- Plot type:
- These are a list of the plot types avaliable from the
output file. At present the Lat-Lon Map is a cylindrical projection.
It is possible to make multiple selections of the plot type.
- Trajectory initial conditions:
- Choose which trajectories you would like plotting using the initial
conditions of the trajectory points. Multiple selections can be made if
you want more than one trajectory on a single plot. If only one trajectory
is present it will be plotted by default; there is no need to
select it.
- Plot Limits:
- Set the minimum and maximum that will appear on the plot using the
plot limits. If no limits are filled in for a variable
then defaults will be chosen.
Occasionally if you fill in only one limit it will have apparently no effect.
Fill in both maximum and minimum guarantees the limits will be used.
- Markers:
- This option lets you plot
markers regular intervals along the trajectories on the lat-lon
maps. The markers are off by default, selecting the check box will
turn them on. Use the Frequency to determine the interval at which the
markers are plotted.
- Output to:
- The default ouput is to the browser. You can select to output to a
postscript file. If the browser has an application such as ghostview
set for postscript files, then this application will be launched. Otherwise
you will be prompted for a file name for the postscript file.
