Datasets with unfunded maintenance
The BADC will accept to archive, maintain and distribute datasets at no cost if they meet all of the following conditions.
- The data submission will occur as a one-off event (possibly including a small number of
transfer sessions), as opposed to a continuous stream or a suite of numerous intermittent
events.
- Data will be uploaded to BADC by FTP.
- The archive tree-structure and the folder and subfolder names will be created by the data
provider at the time of uploading.
- File names will comply with the
BADC Filename Convention.
- The data will be made accessible to the public immediately after submission.
No conditions of use will apply, or the
BADC Default Conditions of Use
will apply.
- No monitoring of the data usage will take place.
- The total volume of the data will not exceed 1 TB and individual file sizes will not
exceed 100 MB.
- The data will be formatted in one of the BADC standard formats
(NetCDF
or NASA Ames ASCII)
and will include all the required metadata, or (if the data are submitted in a different
format) the effort assessed to convert the dataset into one of the standard BADC formats
will not exceed 2 days.
- The information listed in the
BADC Mandatory Metadata
will be provided as a separate document.
If the above conditions are met, the BADC will
- Ingest and archive the data in one of the BADC standard formats, reflecting the filing
structure supplied by the data provider.
- Incorporate relevant metadata in its catalogue, thus allowing for search and discovery
of the dataset by potential users.
- Archive and make available online any additional documentation supplied by the data
provider in a computerized text format.
- Distribute the data to the community via the web, subject to the
BADC Terms and Conditions.
If the
Default Conditions of Use
apply, access will be granted on agreement with these conditions.
- Back up the data on tape at regular intervals.
- Subject the dataset to the BADC Review Procedure
[to be made available online]
at regular intervals and, if judged obsolete, remove it from its catalogue.
