UKMO LAND SURFACE STATIONS DATA (1900-present) ============================================== The Met. Office data archive held at the BADC until June 1998, used to be split in 3 parts: Climate dataset, Synoptic dataset and Rain dataset. These data were retrieved from the Old UKMO database system. Then as the BADC was extracting data updates from the new UKMO database system, we had to temporarily split the archive into two separate parts (data retrieved from the old database system and data retrieved from the new database system) in which data file formats and units are slightly different. The aim is to progressively retrieve Met. Office hourly and daily measurements back to 1900 to produce a new consistent unique dataset of land surface observations. At the present, we have one dataset called UKMO Land Surface Stations Data from which daily measurements back to 1900 are available and hourly measurements back to 1997 (for the moment). Parameters that used to be found in the old Climate dataset can now be found in the new surface dataset but the file format is different and the units differ too. The time period however is much greater! The old climate dataset (climate data 1959-1998) is not available online on tornado, the BADC file server, anymore. But we can give the data to BADC users upon request. The old UK synoptic dataset (Synoptic data 1990-1998) is still available online on tornado since we haven't yet retrieved the hourly data back to 1990 and before from the new UKMO database.
