Message from Gene Feldman at NASA Goddard: Prototype SeaWiFS Browse Utility available for testing Greetings, We are pleased to announce the availability of a prototype Web-based SeaWiFS browse utility for testing and comment. This utility is currently linked to the SeaWiFS operational testing so that new data files will become available as soon as they have passed through the processing system. The utility can be accessed directly from the SeaWIFS World Wide Web Homepage at http://seawifs.gsfc.nasa.gov/SEAWIFS.html This Web service will allow you to view any of the simulated SeaWiFS chlorophyll a browse data that we have on our system. Using the controls on the utility's pages, you may: 1-navigate the temporal hierarchy of level-3 browse images (day,week,month...) 2-retrieve all the level-2 browse images that cover a given geographical location during a given time period 3-retrieve high-resolution, level-2 GAC data in image form for the most recent fourteen days worth of data on our system. Detailed instructions are available on each page of the utility via a button selection. The default level-3 browse image that is presented when you first access this Web service is chosen as follows. Of all the level-3 browse images we have on hand, we choose the ones that represent the longest time period (either daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly). We then pick the most recent image of that subset and configure the rest of this page accordingly. To retrieve the level-2 images that went into the displayed level-3 image, click on the part of the world that you are interested in. If only one level-2 swath contributes to the area that you click on, you will be taken immediately to a page displaying that swath. If multiple swaths contribute to the area you click on, you will receive an intermediate page listing all of the contributing swaths (either as filenames or thumbnail images depending on which toggle you set beneath the level-3 image). You may then choose from the list. Once you have selected a level-2 swath, the utility will allow you to view at full resolution any portion of the SeaWiFS Browse image displayed on that page and to download that image to your local system for later use. We have include a simple comment/suggestion button in hopes that you will let us know what you think and can give us any suggestions that you think would make this tool more useful. The browse script was written by Norman Kuring and was designed using Netscape 2.0. If you are using some other Web browser, you may be missing something. We look forward to your comments and to the chance to use this tool with real SeaWiFS data sometime soon.
